Coffee farmers in Kintamani are strongly organized through Subak Abian which is a traditional structure of farmer organization in the upland areas of Bali. The Subak Abian plays an important role in both the agricultural and religious activities of the famers. Founded on the Hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana (the three causes of happiness) great importance is placed on one’s relationship with god, other people and the environment.
